MyVidster Mod

Nowadays, there are many websites and applications using which you can explore, watch, save, and share videos. Which is why most people no longer buy or download videos. This, however, creates a conundrum. Anytime you like a video, you have to bookmark or save it on the site where you found it. So effectively, your favorite videos are kept apart in multiple locations. In case you want to keep all the videos you ‘like’ in one place, you can download MyVidster. The Android application lets you search for videos available around the web and add them to your personal collection. The videos that you find on the platform can be from any website, including YouTube, Vimeo, DailyMotion, and other video streaming sites.Additionally, you can use MyVidster to download multimedia files to your mobile device or computer. Update:

I hope I got that meme right :). As stated in the meme (or lack of), you can now view your subscriptions while you navigate myVidster! Before I started developing this feature I had set 3 goals. The viewer needed to have a simple user interface, fast loading and non obtrusive. Here is a summary of how I accomplished these goals.

User Interface: The viewer looks a lot like the existing subscription page, but with fewer features (you cannot search/display videos by user). Users are given the option to naviagate though their subscriptions by clicking the prev and next buttons. The state of the viewer (what page its on) is maintain while the user navigates the site. To notify the user of new videos collected by those they follow, the existing video bookmarks in the viewer will fade out and the new video bookmarks will fade in.

Fast Loading: Smart caching is used to speed up load times and when the data needs refreshing the data is pulled from mysql memory tables. Other features like minify html/js/css are also used to minimize the 'payload' sent to the user's web browser.

Non Obtrusive: By default the viewer will remain open and auto refresh is enabled. While I feel these features are great I know some users would prefer not to use them. I can see this being the case with users with low resolution monitors (especially older laptops) where the viewer is taking up too much space. With that in mind, users can disable the keep open and auto refresh feature.

Final words:

YouTube is the mother of all platforms for uploading, watching and sharing internet videos - I think we all know that by now. These days many kids and teenagers don’t even watch television or other streaming platforms like Netflix or HBO; they just get everything they watch and everything they are interested in from this audio-visual giant. Its reach is such that even the vast majority of Smart TVs include the YouTube app. That is why I found it strange that a platform like MyVidster and its app for Android could have an impact until I looked into it a little further. This platform presents itself as an online video system in which users can have their own profile for uploading, sharing and watching videos, as well as following other people who regularly share content that they like. So far, pretty much like any other video-sharing app or website. However, there is one big difference - MyVidster is not YouTube, so users don’t have to comply with strict user requirements or Google filters. Users can upload anything without being censored - even adult videos where clothing is conspicuous by its absence. So, if you are looking for a platform that doesn’t seek to restrict or control or censor your viewing options and content, and allows a wider variety of material to filter through to you, MyVidster sounds like the right fit for you and for a narrower audience in general that wants to be free of the restrictions that quite rightly exist for a wider audience.
